Join citizen scientists for our Fall Water Quality Snapshot. Together we will test water quality in Ioway Creek, the South Skunk River, and their tributaries to draw attention to challenges in the water and solutions on the land.
Twice-a-year volunteer events have provided a “snapshot” of water quality in Ioway Creek and its tributaries since 2006. This year, volunteers will meet at North Riverside Park to pick up a water testing kit and their site assignments. If conditions remain too dry to test our usual sites, we will survey aquatic insects in the South Skunk River. Wear closed-toed footwear that can get wet and muddy.
First-time or inexperienced volunteers should arrive at 1:00 PM to learn how to use the test kits. If you are not physically able or do not have time to participate in water testing, you can still join us at Cottonwood Shelter at 1:30 to learn about our findings.
No cost to participate, but registration is encouraged to make sure we have enough testing supplies available.
1:00 PM: Demonstration – How to Use Water Testing Kits
1:30 PM: Presentation – Findings from the Water Monitoring Program
2:00-4:00 PM: PM Water Testing or Invertebrate Survey
