Fall Water Quality Snapshot
Any time from sunrise (6 am to sunset 8:30 pm)
Tuesday, September 19, 2023
Please contact Prairie Rivers of Iowa Contact: Water Quality Specialist Dan Haug to participate. dhaug@prrcd.org, 515-232-0048
Testing water quality at many streams on the same day helps us narrow down where conservation efforts are most needed. Citizen scientists have been testing Ioway Creek and its tributaries twice a year since 2008 – site locations are shown here on an interactive web map. This year, we will be holding the event on a weekday to coordinate with Polk and Story counties and several Izaak Walton League chapters so we can compare even more creeks and streams across Iowa.
Please let Dan know:
1. Are you available to help with water testing on Tuesday, September 19?
2. Do you need to borrow a kit?
We can arrange for a pickup during business hours at Prairie Rivers of Iowa’s new office (3116 S. Duff Avenue, Suite 201, Ames), or I can leave a kit on a table next to his garage (1835 Coolidge Dr, Ames).
3. Do you have a preference for sites?
Here is an interactive webmap showing the sites in the Ioway Creek Watershed that we’ve tested in past snapshots.
