Creek Cleanup in Ames (Spring 2024)

Saturday April 20, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Rain date: April 27

Meet at N. River Valley Park (see map below) and paddle downstream to S. 16th St, loading the canoes with trash we find along the way!

Lunch (deli sandwiches) will be provided.  We should finish between 1 and 2pm, but if you need to leave earlier, there will be an opportunity for pickup at the midway point.

All the canoes have been filled but you can register to add your name to the waiting list.

Last year we hauled out 20 tires and 3,020 pounds of other trash. Assembling the tools, canoes, food, and people was a collaborative effort involving Prairie Rivers of Iowa, the City of Ames, Story County Conservation, the Skunk River Paddlers, and the Outdoor Alliance of Story County. A few people got wet, everyone got dirty and muscles were sore, but we all had a good time!
