
With partners like soil and water conservation districts, landowners, state and federal agencies and NGO's, the RC&D looks to initiatve research on topics from in-channel erosion (streambed/bank) to strip tillage in an effort to keep our precious resources in place.

Almost without exception, the six counties that make up the Prairie Rivers RC&D region experience the same issue of population and scale - each county has one population center and several small satellite communities all vying to survive and thrive.

Due to the bountiful natural resources of our six county area, Prairie Rivers of Iowa RC&D has adopted a goal for community development that "encourages sustainable natural resource based community and rural economic development".

Water management has implications that reach into nearly every facet of life. From a basic human need like a reliable and safe source of potable water to tourism and economic development, water management is critical to sustaining healthy communities in the area.
